Deferred benefits
Deferred benefits are a package of benefits that are held in your local pension fund, until payment at a future date.
You will have deferred benefits:
In England and Wales if you left the LGPS:
- after 31 March 2004, with at least 3 months membership (or had transferred in previous pension rights)
- between 6 April 1988 and 31 March 2004, with at least 2 years membership (or had transferred in previous pension rights)
- before 6 April 1988, with at least 5 years membership
In Scotland if you left the LGPS:
- after 5 April 1988, with at least 2 years membership (or had transferred in previous pension rights)
- before 6 April 1988, with at least 5 years membership
and you are not yet receiving payment of your benefits or have not transferred them onto a new pension provider.
