If you're paying into the LGPS, you're already a member.
The LGPS is a valuable part of the pay and reward package for employees working in local government or working for other employers participating in the Scheme, and for some councillors. It provides benefits for you and your family both now and in retirement.
The LGPS is widely viewed as one of the most valuable financial rewards of the job.
You can look forward to your retirement with the LGPS which gives you:
Secure benefits –
the scheme provides you with a secure future income, independent of share prices and stock market fluctuations.
At a low cost to you –
with tax-efficient savings and lower National Insurance contributions for most people under state pension age.
And your employer pays in too –
the scheme is provided by your employer who meets the balance of the cost of providing your benefits in the LGPS.
In Already a member you can find out about:
When you can retire: early retirement, ill-health retirement, late retirement and, for employees only, redundancy or business efficiency retirement and flexible retirement.
Your retirement benefits: how they are calculated and how you can adjust your retirement package on retirement
How you can pay more to increase your benefits: buying extra LGPS pension and AVCs
Transferring another pension into the LGPS
If you are absent from work: employees only
If you leave before retirement: deferred benefits, transferring your benefits, refund of contributions
How divorce or dissolution of a civil partnership affects your pension
Life cover: lump sum death grant, survivor pensions for your husband, wife, civil partner and childrens' pensions and, for employees in England and Wales only, nominated co-habiting partner pensions.
